mix and match design

The great thing about trends in home decorating right now is that anything goes! You can buy individual pieces that you love without feeling confined to fitting into a certain color scheme or style. In fact, sometimes the more random it is, the more bold and confident your home will look. Here are some examples of how to mix it up.

Mixing styles: Shaun Moore and Todd Caldwell's victorian toronto home mixes contemporary with antique pieces.

Mixing patterns: Myriam Balaÿ-Devidal's home in southern france pairs wallpaper with patterned textiles.

Mixing patterns 2: Heather Moore of skinny laminx pairs original patterns in her cape town home.

Mixing textures: Emma Reddington's toronto home uses textural objects and a range of materials to add interest to the room.

Mixing colors: artists andy pratt and sarah coombs pair seemingly random colors for a polished look.

dear photograph

I saw this amazing work on The Jealous Curator and I was in love. There is something so nostalgic about it, which you know I appreciate. I want some of these on my wall. Or maybe I could try my hand at some of my own? This is an online project that we can all be a part of. Just send in a picture of an old photo in a present setting. Brilliant!

before & after: bathroom cabinet

Yes, I'm sure you thought I would never post on the bathroom again, but I didn't want to show the big reveal until every detail was complete. I am so close and finally (almost a year later) will be able to give you the full before and after. Until then, I wanted to do some smaller posts and little projects we worked on along the way.

Our bathroom cabinet was found at Goodwill for $4. I painted it and added a wonderful Anthropologie knob to make it more fun. We are really pleased with how great our thrift store cabinet looks!

Total Cost: $12
